One day the phone rang. It was Mary Rodgers of Marienburg Kennel on the line and she told me she had a dog she thought we might be interested in. He was an import and would be perfect for Schutzhund. Mary said if we decided to take him she would waive one of the breedings we had agreed to with Onyx. We drove to Hamilton, Montana, where Marienburg was at that time. We met Prince and wound up bringing him back to Utah.

He and I did some preliminary work but it was easy to see that he really connected with my husband, Price. They started doing Schutzhund and went on to achieve the Schutzhund II level. They also entered and gained an AKC obedience title and the WAC. Prince sired a litter with Onyx and produced 11 puppies. Four of those little beasties were alpha puppies and raising them for the short time we did nearly ruined me forever as far as having other litters was concerned. We were fortunate to place ten puppies with good homes. Some went into Schutzhund, some into the show ring, some were companion dogs. The one pup we kept, Testarosa, did all of the above.

The first day we brought Prince out to the Schutzhund field our helper, Mike Gisseman, fired the gun to see if Prince was sound sensitive. That little guy immediately wanted to go to Mike and 'get' that noisy thing. He was a fun dog to train and trial. He was absolutely fearless and loved to do all three phases of the sport. He taught Price many things, not the least of which was patience. Prince did well in Schutzhund but we believe his true strength would probably have been as a working dog in some kind of police or security work. He was difficult to live with and was not cut out to be a house dog.

Unfortunately, Prince died of cancer when he was only six. It was very quick and devastated Price.
