One day, just for sport, he ran up to an older woman who was walking by. She was dependent on her cane so you can imagine her surprise when a big black dog ran at her barking like mad. Fortunately, she was quiet and just asked if she could pet him once Cindy got him calmed down. Now they are the best of friends.
Baron lives with a lovely red female, Mia. He has taught her to play tug, get into the trash, use the doggie door to run in and out, and other things that are so important in a well adjusted dogs' life. He also has three cats whom he harasses as much as possible.
Baron is an outstanding therapist. He started at Benchmark, a place where the boys' only experience with dogs was either as police canines used to enforce the law or guard dogs used by drug dealers. He now works at Decker Lake, another lockdown facility. He has a client whom he sees on a weekly basis. Dobermans, as a breed, are rather aloof and don't easily give their affection. After several months of gentle interaction and a lot of ball throwing Baron trusted enough to put his paws in his client's lap and give hugs and kisses. A Doberman hug is something to cherish as they are given very sparingly. Once a relationship was established between Baron and his client there was much done to help rehabilitate this young man. He and Baron have become good buddies and many breakthroughs have occurred. A letter written by Baron's client expresses his feelings toward working with him. You can read it by clicking here.
Baron has multiple Companion Dog titles; AKC and UKC. He is working toward his Companion Dog Excellence (CDX) and Utility Dog (UD) designations. He achieved both titles with only 9 appearances in the ring, something to be very proud of. Baron has an excellent temperament as demonstrated by his temperament titles; WAC and Delta Pet Partner certificates. He also does Flyball, tracking, and has done a bit of agility. He was part of the Paws Helping People Therapy Animal Calendar, being featured in May, 2003.
Baron has had the health tests so crucial to the Doberman; vWD, cardio, thyoid, hips, CERF, and anything else that Cindy can think of that will insure the best care for him. He is a healthy, happy, dog in the prime of his life. If you have any questions about Baron you can contact Cindy Starley, his human.
